Guidelines

These guidelines are designed to support a peaceful and respectful environment for everyone participating in the Victoria Meditation Program. They apply to all activities, including Sil programs, Dana offerings, Dhamma discussions, counselling sessions, and special events.

By following these guidelines, participants help create a calm and harmonious atmosphere while gaining the greatest benefit from the practice.

Sil Program

Guidelines for a Peaceful Practice

Arrival & Registration

  • Please arrive at least 10 minutes early
  • Sign the registration book
  • Main door closes at 8:30am

What to Bring

💧 Water Bottle
☕ Personal Mug
🧘 Yoga Mat / Cushion (Optional)

Dress Code (White)

Men: White shirt, sarong, uthuru saluwa

Women: White skirt or lungi, blouse, uthuru saluwa

Remove jackets or wear light-coloured jackets inside

Buddha Pooja

  • Flowers are welcome
  • No incense or oil lamps inside the hall

Midday Offering:

  • A small portion (about half a cup) is sufficient
  • Please label containers and take them back

Noble Silence

Phones off • Speak only when necessary • Remain mindful throughout the program

Noon Alms

Offering with Preparation & Care

Please Note: Please ensure you arrive well before 10:30am to allow sufficient time for preparation, including warming food and setting up.

Schedule

  • 10.45am – Buddha Pooja
  • 11.00am – Dana offering to monks
  • 12.00pm – Pirikara offering & Punya Anumodana
  • 12.15pm – Lunch break & cleaning
  • 1.30pm – 3.30pm – Dhamma sermon for devotees
  • 3.30pm – Final cleaning and wrap-up (including bins)

Additional Information

  • Atapirikara can be obtained from the Dana Hall on the day
  • Donations can be made via EFTPOS or the MON donation box

Important Notes

  • If there is more than one dana devotee on your day, please share your dana menu
  • Please encourage family, friends, and neighbours to participate
  • Please maintain Noble Silence during your visit

Vinaya Reminder

  • Do not store food in the fridge
  • Kindly take all remaining food and rubbish with you

Counselling sessions are available for those seeking personal guidance and support.

Sessions are conducted in a calm and private setting.

Available by prior booking only.

  • Only for registered Sil Shravaka and Shravika

Gilanpasa

Offering with Care & Mindfulness

Please Note: Please ensure you arrive by 5:40pm to allow sufficient time for preparation.

  • Fresh fruit juice, herbal drinks, or milk-based drinks

For devotees:

  • Short eats (sandwiches, rolls, patties)
  • Sweet items (cake, biscuits, slices)
